La Signature

Cèdre & Hinoki

One scent runs through the whole line — warm cedar and Japanese hinoki cypress, full through the body and home, a whisper on the face, absent from the lips. It's what makes the collection feel like one thing.

La Jument

the mare

La Jument began at home, in Michigan, at a kitchen bench — not in a lab or a boardroom. It started with a need, and became a way of doing things.

Why the name

La Jument — the mare

La Jument is French for the mare. The name carries two things we love at once.

The first is the horse. Ours is an equestrian family — our daughter rides hunters and jumpers, and the barn is part of the rhythm of our week. A mare is strength and grace held together: powerful, steady, and quiet about it. That felt like the right spirit for something made to be used every day, without fuss.

The second is the language. French names give the everyday a little ceremony — a body oil becomes an huile corporelle, a small ritual instead of a chore. It's also a nod to the European clean-beauty tradition, the apothecaries and pharmacies where good, simple formulas were made carefully and sold plainly. That's the company we'd like to keep.

Why clean, why marine-free

A need became a principle

The marine-free part isn't marketing. Someone we love most — the person this line was first made for — can't be around shellfish. So the sea was simply off the table: no marine collagen, no algae, no shellfish-derived anything.

Once we started reading labels that closely, we didn't stop. If we were going to make it ourselves, it would be with ingredients we actually recognized and would happily put on our own family — plant oils, gentle sugar-based cleansers, sugarcane squalane instead of the marine kind. What began as one person's necessity became the rule for everything.

Why made here

Made by hand, in Michigan

Everything is made by us, in small batches, in South Lyon. Not outsourced, not white-labeled — mixed, poured, and labeled by hand, with every run written down.

Making it ourselves is the only way we can stand behind every line on the label. It keeps the batches small and fresh, the ingredients honest, and the whole thing close enough to home that our kids have a hand in it. One of them named the hinoki.

Fait à la maison, avec soin.
